Pre Purchase Exam

If you are thinking about purchasing a new horse, our Vets at Racetrack Veterinary Services strongly recommend getting a pre-purchase examination (Vet Check) done to ensure that the horse you will be buying is suitable for the intended use in any equine discipline; Equestrian, Racing and pleasure.

A standard pre-purchase exam includes the following:

  • Clinical Health Examination
Eyes, Nose, Hooves, Heart, Lungs, Body Temperature and Overall Behaviour/Temperament
  • Physical Health Examination
Lameness exam determining Soundness, Conformation, Trot Ups and Flexion Tests

An Advanced Pre-purchase examination includes the following:

  • Standard pre-purchase exam (Clinical & Physical as above)
  • Diagnostic Imaging (Radiographs, Ultrasounds)
  • Endoscopic Examination
  • Blood Tests

While our veterinary practice is situated in Mornington on the Mornington Peninsula, our team has completed pre-purchase examinations Australia-wide including travelling Internationally. We have an experienced team of Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses, where no job is too big or too small.

We regularly perform pre-purchase examinations for racehorses being exported through the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and Malayan Racing Association (MRA). Our Vets can also examine X-rays and watch video endoscopic files of horses including, but not limited to the Thoroughbred Yearling sales, to which they determine if the horse is suitable for a racing syndication/racing career.

Each veterinary Examination completed is client specific and confidential. At Racetrack Veterinary Services, we value our client working relationships.
